The Day of the Dead Celebration is an afternoon of ritual honoring all of those who have gone before us. Throughout the world, cultures have recognized the period of late October through early November as a time when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest. Therefore, invoking prayer, ritual and intention at this time can allow us to feel the presence of our loved ones more acutely.

Together as a community we will build an altar to honor the lives of those who have passed. Participants are encouraged to bring photos and items, especially food that their loved ones enjoyed, for the altar. One by one, we will place our items on the altar and light a candle for each soul we wish to honor. When the altar is complete, we will move the body through a gentle hatha and yin practice to release energy related to grief and loss. We will finish with a heart meditation to tap into the love we share with these beings that transcends time, space and the limitations of the human body.

After our ritual is complete, we will have the opportunity to share thoughts and stories about our loved ones as a way of keeping their spirits alive. Connecting with others and feeling the support of community is an important part of moving towards wholeness after loss. And, when we are able to heal our own pain and sorrow, we contribute to the healing of ancestral wounds that are carried down through generations. This powerful ritual is now an annual event at Yoga Bhoga and we hope you decide to join us.
