Cascade Aids Project’s mission is to prevent HIV infections, support and empower people living with or affected by HIV, and eliminate HIV-related stigma and health disparities. Alongside this life changing program Yoga Bhogas charity class will emphasize the psychological implications of “stigma” as seen through the yogic lense. CAP asks us to consider “what it must be like for someone who suddenly finds they are without the essentials we so often take for granted. Sadly, some people with HIV lose their jobs, their housing, their friends and family, and all means of support.” Not only does CAP provide shelter, life skills training, and emotional support, it helps us all consider the deeper stigmas that are associated with the greater community that surrounds those impacted by HIV and AIDS.
Krista grew up with her father and epidemiologist Mark Loveless who has spent his career caring for HIV and AIDS patients. As a youth volunteer for CAP in 1998 this charity class is dear to her heart. After nearly 20 years working outside of the program it is with joy that she is able to reconnect with this Portland HIV and AIDS program.
